Eggenberg Palace – A Baroque Gem in Graz
Eggenberg Palace, the largest and most significant Baroque palace in Styria, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an outstanding example of Baroque architecture. The magnificent palace complex, surrounded by a sprawling park, impresses with its ornate architecture and rich interior decoration. Particularly worth seeing are the state rooms, including the magnificent Planetary Hall, whose ceiling frescoes depict the planets and zodiac signs. Next to the palace, the romantic garden invites visitors to take leisurely strolls. The Universalmuseum Joanneum, housed within the palace, also offers a comprehensive overview of Styria's art and cultural history.
Riegersburg – The Impregnable Fortress
Riegersburg Castle, majestically perched atop a steep volcanic rock, is one of Styria's most impressive castles. Thanks to its strategic location, it was once considered impregnable and has a turbulent history. Visitors can reach the castle in various ways—either via a picturesque hiking trail or comfortably by modern cable car. Inside the castle, exciting exhibitions vividly bring to life medieval life, witch trials, and the castle's history. From the castle, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the rolling hills of Eastern Styria. A visit to the Zotter chocolate factory, located just a few kilometers away, is the perfect way to round out the trip.
Dachstein Glacier – Adventure at High Altitudes
The Dachstein Glacier is an impressive natural wonder and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Styria. At an altitude of over 2,700 meters, a spectacular mountain landscape unfolds, attracting numerous visitors in both summer and winter. The Dachstein Cable Car takes you comfortably to the mountain station, where the famous "Stairway to Nowhere" and the "Skywalk" viewing platform await—both offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps. In summer, hiking trails and via ferrata routes beckon, while in winter, the ski area on the glacier offers ideal conditions for winter sports enthusiasts.
